US Presidential Campaign

Just a short note on my take on participating in this year’s presidential campaign in the United States.

I’d like to start by saying that the state of democracy in the United States is at an all time low. Watching the campaign this year has left me feeling embarrassed and humiliated to be an American.

What The World Thinks Of The U.S. Election

That said, there were some singularly inspiring voices in the back corners of the room. Living in a state that is firmly going to bring in Hillary Clinton I had the luck and privilege to be able to vote my conscience rather than to be forced to vote the ‘lesser of two evils’ out of fear.

I voted for Dr. Jill Stein in hopes that the Green Party can make the 5% that will give them more participation in future campaigns. That, in my humble opinion, is our only hope here in the United States for resuscitating our democracy and ridding ourselves of the big money interests that are wreaking havoc on us and the world.

Here’s a great interview covering Dr Jill Stein’s progressive views:

Pixar in a Box

Pixar in a Box is a new class offering from Kahn Academy in cooperation with Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios. And, the best part, it’s totally free!

You’ll start out with an introductory tour through the animation movie creation process at Pixar. The class is rich with videos, demonstrations, as well as written explanations and instructions.

With topics on environment modeling, patterns, character modeling, rigging, animation, effects, crowds, sets and staging, and rendering you’ll have a solid knowledge to get started creating your own animated movies.

MOOCs: Massive Open Online Courses

I’ve mentioned MOOCs a few times but I don’t think I’ve ever stopped to explain what they are for those who are not familiar with them.

It’s been a recent trend for colleges, universities and others interested in education to offer free or inexpensive classes on anything from The History of Rock and Roll (that was a fun one!) to Computer Programming to Creative Writing.

You name it, and a free course can be found online. I’ve taken free classes offered by MIT, Harvard, The University of Berkeley and more. Continue reading MOOCs: Massive Open Online Courses

If You Could Clone Yourself As An Avatar

I just watched the most disturbing 73 minute program on Netflix. If you love avatars and wish you could clone yourself to have as an avatar this is a must watch!

You’ll never stop thinking about it. I’m not exaggerating here. Whoever wrote this piece seriously needs to have their head examined so the rest of us can learn how to think that out of the box original. This video is a work of art of the imagination.

And, better yet, it’s gonna make you think hard about just what virtual reality might become someday. The other seasons and episodes ain’t bad either….

Black Mirror,
Season 3
White Christmas

This is introduced as three interconnected tales. It’s actually four in the end. Each tale in the story will give you another view on virtual reality. Each one creepier than the last.
