Ho Ho Ho!

Elf Wanted

Well, it’s that time of year when many people stop to reflect on how they can help to make the world a better place.

Volunteering your time, energy, and skills not only helps others but it can make your own life better by raising your confidence, increasing positive attitudes, and giving you the knowledge that you have the power to create change.

Here’s a couple websites where you might find inspiration.

DoSomething.org

One global movement for good that is one of the largest organizations for young people & social change in the world with 4.2 million members in 130 countries working on any cause, anytime, anywhere involving 240 volunteer campaigns.

The list of campaigns are impressive and surprisingly interesting. It’s primarily focused on getting young people involved using creative ideas for campaigns but there are so many good ideas that anyone can find something both fun and positive to do. Although these volunteer activities generally don’t appear at first glance to solve any big issues it’s good to remember that it takes one step at a time and doing many small things can add up to a lot. So, consider having a little fun as you give your thanx for all the good in your life by working to make the world a better place one project at a time.

Their list, at the time of this writing, of the many current campaigns includes:

Superhero Kits:
Create masks and capes for children experiencing homelessness.

Trash or Treat:
Host a party to upcycle candy wrappers into awesome crafts.

Sexy or Sexist?:
Demand more non-sexy Halloween costume options for women.

Treats for Troops:
Run a Halloween candy collection drive for soldiers.

Social Media Makeover:
Host a workshop to teach underclassmen safe Internet practices.

Patient Playbooks:
Create activity books for children in hospitals

Storm Drain Street Art:
Make chalk art on street storm drains to protect local waterways.

Freaky Friday Walks:
Start a walking club to reduce your neighborhood’s diabetes risk.

Love It Forward:
Ask social influencers to publicly support LGBTQ rights.

Here’s one we can all do right now!
1 Star for Hate:
Flood online retailers with one-star reviews of racist costumes.

Idealist.org

This site is a more serious. Basically a site to connect people with the desire to work for a better world with opportunities for action. They host a searchable list of jobs, internships, volunteer opportunities, events, and organizations where you might find the perfect way to contribute your talents or skills to help create social change and help others. So, if you are serious about contributing, this site may be the place to find that opportunity.

    1. Yeah, sorry about that. I was troubleshooting an issue on facebook auto-posting notices on my timeline for posts here. I’ve been in the habit of writing, then publishing, then digging up some sort of thumbnail to make the notifications and such more interesting, then updating the post with the added image.

With experimenting, I figured out I have to add the thumbnail before I hit publish for the first time. To experimented with this particular post to figure that out. I deleted the first instance of this article post and created a new post with the thumbnail image included before I hit the publish button. Viola – it worked! Lesson learned but, 2 emails to everyone for the post.

      My apologies,
      =D~`,
